1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1

1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1

Description

Presenting a beautiful example of a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 2-door SportsRoof with only 52,799 original miles. As documented by the Deluxe Marti Report this car was born a real Mach 1 with a 351-2V V-8 engine. It was built at the Dearborn factory on April 30, 1973, which was seven days behind schedule. It was then shipped to SOO Motors, Inc., located in Sault Ste Marie, Mich., for retail sale. It was ordered in Medium Bright Yellow paint with Ginger knit vinyl bucket seats. It was equipped with a 351-2V V8 engine, C-6 Select Shift automatic transmission and 2.75 conventional rear axle. This vehicle is equipped with optional features including F70x14 belted raised white letter tires, power steering, power front disc brakes, AM radio, Mach 1 Sports interior option and Forged aluminum wheels.

This car was purchased from California in 1985 by a father and son who lived in West Warwick, RI. It was a very original car with low mileage. Their plan was to restore the car but never got around to it. In September of 2000, they sold it to a gentleman who lives in Seekonk, Mass. He followed their plan and did a complete restoration. The restoration was truly a labor of love. Once the car was completed, he showed it at many car shows, accumulating more than 300 awards. Some of the prestigious awards included three with MCA, many with MCCNE, Presidents Choice at Endicott and Legend for Cruising New England magazine.

The car retains all of its original sheet metal with exception of the battery panel. The body is extremely straight with excellent gaps throughout. The factory-correct Medium Bright Yellow paint is beautiful and ocean deep. The black accents on the hood, lower part of body and spoiler add character. It has a tinted front windshield, rear louvers, deluxe bumper group, pop open gas cap and much more. The car sits on 14” Magnum 500 wheels with Goodyear 225/70/14 tires.

The factory-correct Ginger knit vinyl Mach 1 Sports interior complements the exterior very nicely. It’s equipped with many features such as bucket seats, instrument group, remote mirrors, full console, clock and power steering. It has an AM/FM-8 track with four Ford speakers. During the restoration the rear windows were fabricated so they could be rolled up and down. This provides not only extra airflow but also a great look. The trunk compartment is nicely detailed with a trunk mat and spare tire with tools.

The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout. It’s home to the original matching numbers 351 – 2V Cleveland V8. It’s equipped with the dual Ram Air setup, which isn’t currently hooked up but easily can be. During the restoration a few upgrades were made to improve performance and reliability. Some of these include an Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 600 carburetor, K&N air filter, Pertronix ignition system with electric voltage regulator and Optima red top battery which was hidden under original style battery cover. The engine breathes through ceramic headers and a custom Flowmaster exhaust system. This engine runs and sounds amazing. The engine is coupled to the C-6 automatic transmission which shifts very smoothly. The undercarriage is nicely detailed throughout.
