1967 Amphicar

1967 Amphicar

Description

One of the most rare, unusual, and highly collectible cars ever produced. A total of 3,878 Amphicars were produced and it is estimated that as few as 500-600 still exist in fully operable condition. Designed to operate in the water as well as on land, it was advertised as the Model 770, a reference to its speed on water and land (7 knots / 70 mph). The drive train features a rear end four cylinder engine with a four speed transmission. To engage the propellers, one simply has to put the gear shift into neutral, shift the marine transmission into forward and disengage the clutch. This Amphicar underwent a complete restoration. The body was stripped to the bare shell and repainted. At that time the motor and transmissions were completely rebuilt and reinstalled. The Amphi was used and enjoyed in the lakes around New Hampshire for many years prior to its restoration, since restoration the vehicle has only been in the water just twice.
