1957 Zündapp Janus 250

1957 Zündapp Janus 250

Description

Based on a design by aircraft builder Claudius Dornier, the Janus was later developed and put into production by German motorcycle manufacturer Zündapp, with just over 6,900 produced between 1957 and 1958. Previously finished in yellow, this example received a repaint in its current two-tone red and white during previous ownership and features chrome bumpers and a single side-view mirror.

Power is provided by a mid-mounted 248cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine paired with a four-speed floor-shifted manual transmission, and features include a single side-view mirror, chrome bumpers, single doors at the front and rear, pop out quarter windows, and bench seats that can be folded down into a bed. The mid-mounted 248cc two-stroke single-cylinder engine was factory-rated at 14 horsepower, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed floor-shifted manual transmission.

Stopping power is provided by hydraulically-actuated four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and the car rides on leading-arm front suspension with a swing-axle out back. A spare wheel is mounted in the floor between the seats.
